Orient Men's CER17003K Finish Line Slide Rule Calendar Watch Review

First off - don't be put off by the ugly gray dial pictured in awful promo ad photo. The dial is a beautiful reflective rich and regal metallic silver. It's stunning. (Orient should rephotograph this watch if they want to more of them. There are better pictures on the web posted by owners of this watch.) I've always admired Orient Watch Co as a true watchmaker in the Swiss tradition (except for the inflated Swiss price tag) that continued producing quality mechanical watches - start to finish, post-quartz revolution. Chose this one because I prefer silver dial watches and thought the calendar feature unique and useful. That, and I simply always wanted an Orient - the price was right, so I jumped on it. The calendar feature is not automatic. It is set manually using by rotating dial at the 4 o'clock position so that the date on the outer bezel aligns with the days on the outside of the dial. I prefer watches with a "cyclops" magnifier over the date complication so you can easily see the date in all lighting conditions. The Orient Finish line is a perfect size -not too small nor too large, and is perfect weight that feels substantial in your hand (unlike other watches in this price range) but not so heavy as to be an annoyance while wearing it. The bracelet is solid stainless steel - not folded over hollow clasps typically found on watches in this price range. Orient is known as a true watchmaker among watch enthusiasts - designing and manufacturing each and every component of the watches they market. They make their own high-quality mechanical movements in-house, which the School of Horology compares favorably to much more expensive Swiss ETA movements. What sets Orient apart from other watchmakers is the broad range of designs they offer - from tasteful conservative dress watches to let's say more "whimsical" designs, to divers, to sports watches - but bucking the Swiss watch trend, Orient gives you a lot of watch for your money. The Orient Finish line is the highest-quality sub-100 dollar watch (at time of purchase) I have ever owned. Seiko 5's are very good in this regard but Orient is nothing short of remarkable. The Orient Finish line won me over - high quality, beautiful packaging, surprisingly well-finished quality watch I look forward to wearing in the years to come. I'm now officially an "Orient guy". This is the first - but won't be the last, Orient automatic I own.

I guess this series called "showcase" is for youth. No where is that mentioned on this product page. I now own a wilson yak glove and it is nice.

I narrowed my glove choice to Wilson 2000 series. Because I thought wilson glove were softer in genral and like the feel of them. bad thing about ordering online is you don't actually know how big they are. I have a 12 1/4 Easton glove for 10 years, it is getting old and feel like rubber when I play softball for my company team. Well these glove were smaller infielder so I image them being shorter for quick release for infielder. When I got them they looked like kids gloves, and I don't have big hands either and I had pain trying them on. These glove are for people with size small hands. I called the company and bought a new glove. While I played baseball as a kid, softball actually require larger glove since the ball is much bigger. These glove web are almost the size of an ASA male softball, not good.

MAterial wise it was nice, I liked the color scheme, and the open web so I can see on pop flys. Teh glove leather was harder then I though and was not game ready like Wilson yak. Unless you have size small hands past on this Dustin Perorida version, which when I got said it was for small hands, guess I didn't read. I reordered a Wilson 2000 12.5".

This light is pretty great. I just finished working on a 10 week reality show where we were in the wilderness all over the world. From swamps, to mountain peaks, to jungles. It performed well in all situations.

It is a little bulky. When people first saw it, they would make little jokes but quickly shut up when they saw the superior flood this puts out. It simply crushed every other headlamp on the crew... Victory was mine!

Even though the beam is very wide, all of it was much brighter than even the center of most other lamp beams.
This is perfect for walking through the woods or anywhere where you'd want to see a large area in front of you. We even used it to signal in a helicopter across a valley. Might be overkill if all you need from a headlamp is to provide light while you rummage through a back pack.

The other huge benefit of this light was the fact that it takes AA batteries. Very easy to find in any country. This is undoubtedly what makes it bigger that other headlamps, but well worth it.

The forehead pad is comfortable and the strap held it in place nicely.
