I am a big fan of damascus steel. with metallurgy today, modern alloys have as much , if not more strength and toughness as damascus steel. the thing is that this type of steel gives anything made of it a partucilar beauty that is hard to replicate. the Knife it's self is a large heavy tool. the edge came very sharp, not razor sharp, but sharp enough to cut paper easily and holds that edge as well. it is a strudy blade and it gives the impression that if you had to rely on this as a survival tool, you would be satisfied with the results. the leather sheath is very well made. I do not care for the two strap binding method to keep it in the sheath, but that is more a personal preference. the sheath is functional and the the leather is thick and well made, like it was expected to keep this blade in place on a persons belt during adverse conditions. YES this was a bit exspensive for a blade, but the quality and the looks more than makes up for the price. this is a good purcahse, no matter if all you want to do is hang it on your wall as part of a collection, OR if you intend to use the beautiful knife as an actual tool to cut and chop in harsh outdoor conditions. I am very happy with this purchase.
