I'd had my Leatherman Core for more years than I can remember. It's been like my right hand, coming to my rescue several times every day. It's big and hefty, and can really take punishment without complaint.

I recently had mine confiscated at the airport, when I thought I'd save some money and only checked in one bag instead of two, but forgot that the bag I was carrying on had my old pal tucked in the bottom. I remembered it when I was going thru security, but by then it was too late - the plane was about to leave, and I had no time to go back and check this bag. I used all my jedi powers, but I knew they would find it and take it away. And they did. It's such a shame that a handful of bad people have made it so hard on the millions of good people who fly everyday.

But I digress (I'm old, it happens). It's hard to understand just how much you use a tool, until you reach for it and it's not there. I know I did that at least a dozen times a day. I checked out Leatherman's website and was saddened to see that the Core had been discontinued, so I bought different one, and while it was a fine tool with a high-tech look, it just didn't have the heft and strength of my old Core, and I was always afraid of breaking it, so I really couldn't use it the way I always had.

I wanted a Core - even a used one would be better than a tool I was afraid I'd break. I went to Amazon first, because I've never - ever - gone wrong with Amazon. I can't say the same for other sites.

As expected, I found several, new and used, and I was able to get one quick and at a decent price.

My old buddy's back on my hip again, next to my right hand, and my world makes sense again.
