I'm a back country split boarder. These poles are excellent for assent and storage while riding down. I weigh almost 200 lbs and picked up my legs and placed my weight on the poles without them collapsing or moving from their 130cm position. The top is a very refined twist lock that I would trust to work in all conditions. the bottom two are dual pin detent type nipples that can easily be manipulated with your gloves on. I considered Komperdell, Leiki and Black diamond before pulling the trigger on these. I use a 24l ortovox pack and they fit in there better than the black diamond. The BD is shorter but has more surface are in your pack since the poles do not fit inside themselves. The lanyards are bomb proof and the grips are nice and tacky, extending lower for side hills and fighting ninjas. It came with small baskets and very nice ones for snow that snapped on. The plastic covers on the carbide tips are junk but will do for saving your back pack. The carbide tips are crossed and have 4 sharp points of contact. I'm very happy with these poles. The BD were made in China. These are Made in Korea by the same company that makes my carbon fiber arrows for bow hunting. Korea makes great poles and arrows! The Komperdell would have been a better pole but the Vario Carbon model i was looking at that compared to these was 250 dollars. I would suggest this pole to anybody who wants a great compact pole for splitboarding or trecking.N NW Montana Territory
