Product Description
Modernize the Uzi with the ability to mount modern accessories. Unique solution to bring UZIs up to speed and take advantage of modular accessories. Machined from solid billet of aircraft-grade aluminum and hard anodized. Mounts easily to full-size IMI UZIs. Requires slight fitting for Group Industries (i.e.. Vector Arms) receivers as they are slightly bigger in the front handguard area. Also available for the Mini-Uzi - see UTR-MMako Tactical Rail System for Uzi Review
For a machine gun thats been around for over 50 years there sure isn't a whole lot of rail options out there for the Uzi. My needs were very simple - I wanted to be able to mount a vertical foregrip and a tactical light. The VFG was so that if I wanted to transition to my pistol, for whatever reason, I could simply control the Uzi with my left hand holding the VFG and therefore not have to drop the gun or let it swing off a single-point sling. The desire for a tactical light...well, thats pretty obvious: half the time it's dark. This product arrived with absolutely zero instructions, documentation or anything. Just a polybag holding the rail system. Okay, it's fairly intuitive. Remove the handguards from your Uzi, slide the rail down the length of barrel trunion and secure in place. The fit over the trunion was snug, but it did slide into place. (The Uzi in question was a genuine AA Model B, not a clone.) The rail system clears the sling swivel on the left-side of the gun, and also clears the bayonet lug although it does make the lug inaccessible. Other than some numbering on one row of slots, the rail system is unmarked...unlike the one in the photo. I mounted a Magpul MOE to the bottom rail with no difficulty. A Surefire Scout light clamped onto the side rails with no problem. A Streamlight M3 was a snug fit to slide on, but not too bad. Same for a Stramlight TLR3S. So, is it worth the admittedly large outlay? If you wanted *just* a VFG or *just* a tactical light, you could find much, much cheaper rail accessories out there. However, if you want to run more than one accessory at a time this would be a very good option. I can't say this product isnt worth the money because it does do exactly what it is intended to do...but I have a very difficult time believing this couldn't be done for less money without sacrificing quality. Again, the lack of availability of rail systems for the aged Uzi platform doesn't really leave much choice in selection. So knocking off one star for craptacular lack of documentation and instructions. Dinging another star for being, in my opinion, unnecessarily expensive. But...neither one of those affect the actual function of the product, which is worth five stars. So buy it if youd on't mind dropping the coin and you need more than one attachment rail. Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "Mako Tactical Rail System for Uzi" are high quality item.
